Pico Rivera Proclaims local storm emergency ahead of winter
By Local Pico Rivera news desk
The Pico Rivera City Council has proclaimed a local emergency in anticipation of severe weather and flooding hazards from the 2026–27 El Niño event.
City Manager Steve Carmona stated, "Our job is to be ready before the first storm arrives, not after," and the proclamation gives the city tools to move quickly in response to storms.
The city is taking steps to prepare, including fast-tracking procurement and resources staging for flood-mitigation work and mobilizing emergency standby protocols for Public Works crews.
Residents are encouraged to sign up for emergency notifications and build or refresh a household and business emergency plan and supply kit to prepare for the upcoming storms.
